The most anticipated event in mobility

Gridlock 2025 is all about sharing as much knowledge, tools, and tactical wisdom as possible. The one day program consists of two parts.


🕘 Morning SHOCK Program

  • We kick off the day with a welcome from Bas van Leeuwen, City Councillor of Haarlem.

  • Then, your hosts Prof. Marco te Brömmelstroet and Jonne Kuyt set the stage, introduce the day’s mission, and explain how to get involved.

  • From there, you’ll be invited to explore a series of pitches from live experiments and fieldlabs, each pushing the boundaries of what mobility and city-making can be.

  • You’ll then dive deeper into your selected fieldlabs in an interactive breakout program that sparks discussion, imagination, and hands-on learning.

🕑 Afternoon IMPACT Program

  • After lunch, urban experimentation expert Katherine van Hoose will deliver a keynote on how research and policy innovation can drive meaningful change.

  • Break out sessions will then be focussing on interactive thought exchange in which cities and public organisations share their thinking and learnings.

  • Next up: the Fishbowl Debate — an open mic discussion on three of the most pressing and provocative topics in the field. Join leading thinkers and daring voices in a dynamic, rotating dialogue where the audience is part of the stage.

  • We close the day with the Frictioneer Award pitch session — where five bold, radical experiments compete for your vote.

  • Then, it’s time for a surprise final act to end the day with a spark.

  • Stick around for bites, drinks, and connection as we reflect, network, and unwind into the evening.

THE SHOCK PROGRAM contains

The program is designed for you to dive deep into how the most progressive cities, organizations, and thinkers. From practical templates to philosophical frameworks — this program is for anyone involved in the mobility transition. In random order.


  • Mobility transition projects and teams from the City of Voorburg, Province of Overijssel, Zuid-Holland, and Haarlem will present and share their learning and insights on how transition work and how they fail.


  • Jip Schelling (Advier) – on using gamification to shape desirable parking thinking


    Marnix de Vos (BVR) – on imagining alternatives to N-roads


    Punkparklet meets Greenwheels – how pop-up interventions shift perception


    Daan van Egeraat van Montefeltro – on dynamic parking pricing and front-door parking behavior change

  • We discuss Theater groups De Warme Winkel’s “Car Sacrifice” performance with director Vincent Rietveld – a bold exploration of the role of imagination and rituals in system change.

  • The fieldlab, currently finalist in the EU Road safety award, needs a handover to scale the idea. learn about it and own it if you like.

  • From technocratic writing to value-driven policymaking or how to write with the right intention. Featuring the development of the Mobility Bullshit Bingo

  • Bicycle Mayor Romee Nicolai is cooking up new forms of value and ownership in mobility.

  • A project on how to change Car safety standards focussed on people inside the car towards a standard focussing on external impact of cars.

  • An instructional session on how to build experiments like the Zebra printer that shows how fun ideas can have serious impact.

  • A new fieldlab on how car ownership creates tension in the public space due to the lack of space. A remedy to help car owners overcome their shame and contribute to better streets. Puns included.

  • A live, rotating panel on the 3 most controversial topics in mobility — featuring experts, activists and statusquo-ers. Moderated by Marco te Brömmelstroet

  • A pitch to involve you in the project to activate the Lego company to add cycling lanes to the Lego city building kits.

  • Let’s end the day as we intend to reshape it: together, radically, and on the street. A group-based, participatory mobility disruption in the city of Haarlem.

  • Meet the 5 daring finalists behind radical, friction-inducing experiments.

  • With zero emission zones growing we ask ourselves and the people in the street what it means to live in a Full emission zone
