FULL EMISSION ZONE
Reframing the Zero-Emission Zone: What About the Full-Emssion zone?
As Dutch cities, including Amersfoort, take steps toward climate-friendly mobility by introducing zero-emission zones, a crucial question remains: what happens outside these areas? In this public experiment, we flip the script. Instead of celebrating the clean zones, we place signs that highlight the full-emission zones—the streets, neighborhoods, and spaces where fossil-fueled traffic still dominates.
By making the invisible visible, this intervention challenges the assumption that progress is only where the labels say it is. It asks: why do we accept pollution as the norm in most parts of our city? And who benefits—or loses out—when we draw these boundaries?
This project invites residents, policymakers, and passers-by to rethink what justice, health, and climate ambition look like in practice. Not just in isolated zones, but street by street, for everyone.
